Thoughts & Conversations in a Changing World

Let’s talk about sheep…

So… I’m seeing a bunch of y’all are super quiet about recent events regarding black folks. Maybe you’re having deep convos at home or with friends & family. I suspect, however, some of y’all are just waiting for this to “blow over” because you really think the struggle for black lives is imaginary. Many of you are celebrating graduations and other wonderful events and just don’t have time to focus on what’s happening outside your immediate circle. Understand that if you’re not actively talking about fairness, equality, how America achieves equity AND taking action in a way that fits your spirit- you are part of the problem. Many of you consider yourself followers of Christ. Welp, The Bible has a lot to say about those who are oppressed and what happens to those who stand by and “wait for things to blow over.” As to Black Lives Matter- Jesus told us a parable that likens itself to this situation. Luke 15:3-7 talks about a shepherd with 100 sheep. One goes missing, so he leaves the 99 in the pasture to search for 1. The shepherd cares about ALL his sheep, but only one may be in danger. He finds the lost sheep and rejoices… Here’s the synthesis part: ALL people are important. Full stop. However, right now- Black people are in danger. Will you follow Christ’s teachings and help, or sit back and “wait for this to blow over?” God & the enemy are watching intently as to what you do next…
